Masuwon Designs

Robin Sappier, a proud Mi’kmaq/Maliseet woman from Wutstok (Woodstock) First Nation, is a multifaceted artist known for her captivating ribbon skirt creations. Her journey into the world of art began as a means of healing from trauma, sparked by her experiences as a disabled veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

After serving during 9/11, Robin grappled with Complex PTSD, facing a profound sense of despair and hopelessness. However, through the transformative power of art, she discovered a path to healing and growth that surpassed her wildest expectations. Art became her sanctuary, enabling her to navigate the depths of her trauma and emerge stronger and more resilient than ever before.

Drawing upon her background in art therapy and her passion for supporting individuals struggling with mental health, Robin found solace and purpose in her ancestral community of Wutstok. Surrounded by the strength and support of her people, she embarked on a journey of self-discovery and cultural reconnection that would forever change her life.

Inspired by her love for sewing and a desire to reclaim her Indigenous identity, Robin found her calling in creating ribbon skirts. Each skirt she crafts is a testament to her resilience and determination, blending vibrant colours, textures, and symbolism to celebrate Indigenous culture and empower others on their journeys of self-discovery.

Through her art, Robin strives to not only reconnect Indigenous peoples to their cultural heritage but also to inspire hope, resilience, and pride.
